Most patients receiving Kenalog injections for hair loss can expect to receive them on a regular schedule of 4 to 6 weeks, with 6 weeks being the favored option to ensure any risks or complications associated with the treatments can be minimized as much as possible. There are also many cases in which individuals will be recommended to receive Kenalog injections every two weeks for a series of three treatments, or will need monthly treatments for 6 months. The longevity of the results provided by one injection is very difficult to measure as the results will vary quite a bit for each individual and will also depend on how many treatments they have received as well as the cause of their hair loss. Some patients may only need a series of treatments administered between 2 and 6 weeks apart for anywhere from 3 to 6 treatments total in order to achieve permanent results. However, not everyone will be able to achieve such long-lasting results, instead needing to continue receiving regular injections once every 4 to 6 weeks long-term so long as the treatment remains safe and effective. To ensure that the treatments last for as long as possible, it is very important that patients complete the recommended series of treatments provided by a qualified specialist, and closely follow all preparation and aftercare instructions provided by the specialist.

Kenalog injections are often recommended for those who are experiencing hair loss due to an inflammatory condition such as localized alopecia areata (where less than 50% of the scalp is affected), including of the eyebrows or beard, lichen plano pilaris, frontal fibrosis alopecia, discoid lupus, and folliculitis de calvans. This method of treatment may not be an effective treatment option for those with severe cases of hair loss as it is typically only recommended for mild to moderate cases. Additionally, Kenalog injections will not be effective for those with other causes for hair loss including pattern baldness or hair loss, advanced traction alopecia, or telogen effluvium.
